[Book Review] June Jam (Calendar Mysteries, #6) by Ron Roy

June is for Jam…

It's almost Father's Day, and Bradley, Brian, Nate, and Lucy want to make homemade strawberry jam for their dads. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as it first seems. Some sneaky creature is taking bites of their strawberries. Polly the pony, Pal the dog, and Josh the older brother are all suspects. If the kids can't protect the strawberry patch from the mystery chomper, they might be in a real jam!

Continuing the theme of May Magic, June Jam has the Green Lawn gang--the Hathway, Pinto, and Duncan families--celebrating a less commonly written about holiday, Father's Day. Also like May, it focuses on the Pinto family--specifically Mr. Pinto this time--as the younger quartet of kids, Bradley, Brian, Nate, and Lucy, get together to prepare a homegrown strawberry jaw as a present. But of course they need a mystery to solve, so Roy gives them a garden caper, with some critter having munched on their main ingredient.

As usual, there's not a ton to the story, and it's certainly not going to blow any minds. But it's a sweet Father's Day story, which is great because, honestly, that's a holiday that doesn't get a lot of love. Again, it's nice to see the kids' parents getting more pagetime (even if Ruth Rose's parents continue to be woefully neglected and Lucy's do not appear--though that, at least, is justified by the premise). I'm really enjoying these as a quick way to pass a few minutes and revisit Green Lawn, a setting I'll always have a fondness for, and I highly recommend both this series and A to Z Mysteries.

And since Father's Day (and summer!) is coming up soon, it's the perfect time of the year for this book!
